Nickl & Partner Architekten AG has successfully participated in an urban development ideas competition for new construction of the Flugfeldklinikum in Böblingen and taken third place.

The site of the new hospital is characterised in part by strongly contrasting structures due to its historical development: a green corridor to the north, businesses to the south, a transport hub to the west and planned mixed-use to the east. Within this very heterogeneous situation, it was necessary to use the potential of the development area to create an attractive hospital facility.

The design proposes a concept based on an efficient, clearly articulated structure positioned harmoniously in the urban development context and creating different, inviting spatial situations. Individual targeted highpoints structure the ensemble, give it visibility and create an address that is appropriate to the social mission of a hospital for the towns of Böblingen and Sindelfingen.
