The structural work for Regensburg Innovation Centre began with a symbolic hammer blow on 3 April 2014. The foundation stone was officially laid by Gerhard Eckl (CEO, Nickl & Partner Architekten AG), Manfred Koller (head of the economic development department), Joachim Wolbergs (deputy mayor), Bernhard Lutter (project manager), Alexander Rupprecht (chief executive, R-Tech GmbH), Hans Schaidinger (mayor) and Thomas Rödl (chief executive, Rödl & Herdegen Bauunternehmen GmbH).
The project, a technology campus designed to make use of the region’s extensive resources, will play a major part in the future of Regensburg. Located on the 35-hectare site of a former barracks, close to the city centre and directly connected to the Regensburg University, it is designed to promote closer cooperation between science and business. It consists of two buildings, which will be constructed simultaneously: one for startups and high-tech companies, and the other for research and development.
The estimated construction phase lasts from June 2013 to February 2015.
