On 5 October, IRIS – Integrative Research Institute for the Sciences – was ceremonially opened in Berlin Adlershof. The fact that the ceremony took place two years after the commissioning of the research building could not spoil the festive mood. The welcoming speeches, which were held, among others, by the President of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Prof. Dr Julia von Blumenthal, and Ulrike Gote, Berlin Senator for Science, Health, Care and Equality, contained many words of praise for the building. Prof. Hans Nickl and Prof. Jürgen Rabe, Director of IRIS Adlershof, emphasised the special composition of the building, which is certainly unique on the Adlershof science campus, as the research institute was integrated into the former military barracks on Am Großen Windkanal. The laboratories are inserted as a new, connecting element between two building blocks of the former barracks, which mainly house the offices of IRIS Adlershof. IRIS Adlershof has already won the German Design Award.
