In December, the Budget Committee of the Bavarian State Parliament gave the go-ahead for the second construction phase of the chemistry centre for the Faculty of Sciences of Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU).

The 420 million euro project will add a sustainable and energy-saving building to FAU’s chemistry campus at the Erlangen-Süd site. The new building with a gross floor area of approx. 35,000 square metres will house a lecture hall, laboratory, seminar and administration rooms as well as workshops for the Department of Chemistry and Pharmacy. The organisation of the floor plan was largely influenced by the development of highly flexible laboratory modules. They permit a variety of uses and can be adapted to the individual requirements of the different research groups.

As the first building on the campus with façade greening between vertical wooden slats, the CHEM2 manifests our claim to design the new building with maximum energy efficiency and sustainability.
