A Building for Diverse Tasks: New Construction of the State Criminal Police Office in Saxony-Anhalt in Barleben
North of the state capital Magdeburg, on approximately 8 hectares, the state of Saxony-Anhalt is planning a new building for the State Criminal Police Office (LKA). Our design for a highly flexible building complex for contemporary work environments won over the client, represented by the Saxony-Anhalt Real Estate and Project Management Company (IPS), in this Europe-wide tender process.
With 1100 rooms over approximately 60,000 m², including numerous special functions for the roughly 760 LKA employees, this is a complex construction task. As the general planner, we proposed a clear, representative large form, “One House,” that brings together the different departments in bright, friendly, and contemporary workspaces and can adapt flexibly to changes in use. The building will meet the highest security standards externally and be accessed internally through a series of green courtyards, providing protected areas for informal interaction for LKA staff.
The new LKA complex will include facilities for training, education, and accommodations, a parking structure with over 400 spaces, and facilities for the maintenance and storage of special vehicles, all harmoniously integrated into a green campus. A high sustainability standard in construction and building technology is targeted to achieve a BNB Silver certification.
Our team in Berlin looks forward to the project with great enthusiasm and motivation and is excited to collaborate with IPS and all specialist planners!
