The groundbreaking for the new Interdisciplinary Tumor Center (ITZ) designed by Nickl & Partner Architekten AG at the University Medical Center took place in Freiburg on 22 May 2015.

The ITZ is attached to the existing Surgical Clinic and will provide connections to both the Surgical Clinic expansion and future buildings in the clinic ring. During the groundbreaking, Baden-Württemberg’s Economics Minister, Nils Schmid (SPD), emphasized that Freiburg’s excellent reputation for cancer treatment will be further strengthened. A five-storey building will be constructed, where cancer specialists from different disciplines will be able to collaborate under one roof.

At the same time, the new construction project means an important step in the further urban development of the city of Freiburg.
