Expansion of St. Mary Hospital in Brandenburg an der Havel with geriatric nursing wards.
The St. Mary Hospital focuses on geriatric and internal medicine treatment and is being expanded with two wards that are housed in a freestanding, new building that is directly connected to the existing hospital. The wards will be separately accessed via the two-level connecting bridge. Inside the new building, the wards are linked by a new staircase. The two new wards are expected to accommodate 52 beds, which will be distributed between two geriatric wards and a palliative ward. Ancillary rooms are placed on the same floor as the wards they serve. The majority of patient rooms and both day rooms face the garden to the southwest. The examination/treatment area is located in the building interior alongside the light well that provides the interior of the ward with daylight and fresh air and provides additional space for a highly visible patient garden.
The position of the additional structure at the northern end of the existing building permits the largest possible contiguous patient garden and forms a harmonious ensemble with the existing buildings. The improved overall situation contributes to patient recovery and offers the staff an optimal work environment.
