On 2 May 2016, the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Parent-Child Centre (ELKI for short) at Bonn University Hospital took place.
“The finest level of a hospital is a building for children and parents,” according to Professor Professor Wolfgang Holzgreve. With these words, he emphasised the core of the idea that parents and children can be treated at the same time in a hospital. “The care of pregnant women, women in childbed and their unborn children can now take place in close contact with all of the professional paediatric disciplines at all times,” explains Prof. Ulrich Gembruch, Director of the Obstetrics and Prenatal Medicine department at the Bonn University Hospital.
In addition to high quality technical equipment, a hospital design suitable for children was also an important issue for all participants. Nickl & Partner Architekten AG has been commissioned with HOAI service phases 2 to 8 at the ELKI in Bonn.
