The Augsburg Hospital is getting a new intensive care centre. The foundation stone of the building designed by Nickl & Partner Architekten AG was laid ceremoniously on 15 July 2016. The hospital’s medical director, Prof. Michael Beyer, is not the only person for whom this day had special importance. Bavaria’s finance minister, Dr Markus Söder, the mayor of Augsburg, Dr Kurt Gribl, and Augsburg’s district administrator, Martin Sailer, were present at the laying of the foundation stone.
In future, more than 130 intensive and intermediate care beds will be housed in the west annexe. The Augsburg Hospital currently has 1,700 beds. The west annexe will also accommodate the Institute for Laboratory Medicine and Microbiology, the Institute for Transfusion Medicine and the pathology department.
The west annexe should be complete by the end of 2018. Reserve space for the intensive care station will be built at the same time as the west annexe. Intensive care will be evacuated as early as January 2017. This is necessary in order to complete the west annexe by the end of 2018
Virtual reality glasses allow political representatives to take a walk through a building that doesn’t exist yet. This allows the future intensive care centre to be experienced today.
