Prof. Christine Nickl-Weller (Ed.)
The health care system is in a period of radical upheaval. Demographic change, privatisation and increasing competition between health care providers and new emphases in medical care – keyword: prevention – represent a great challenge for the hospital architecture of the future. This book documents the contributions from the fields of social welfare, architecture, medicine and business to the first “Health Care der Zukunft” (Health Care of the Future) symposium organised by the Department of Hospital and Health Care Building Design at the Technical University in Berlin. There are very clear differences, but also points of contact between the positions of these four disciplines. Despite disagreement about how to move forward, the speakers are united in their objectives: the challenges must be addressed now. This volume makes an important contribution to the debate and the future direction of the health care system.
