The ground-breaking ceremony marked the start of construction on the Großhadern campus of the LMU-Klinikum on March 13th. After careful planning, the highly modern clinic building of the interdisciplinary and interprofessional university clinic for paediatrics and youth medicine will be built in the coming years. The clinics for pediatrics and pediatric surgery will be combined with the integrated social pediatric center and other facilities on around 19,200 square meters of floor space with almost 200 beds. The New Hauner is a venerable successor to the renowned Dr. from Hauner Children’s Hospital.
After Nickl & Partner won first prize in the competition in 2015, the project initially went through a lengthy design process, including changes to the content, new procedural specifications and a change of location. Pandemic and general increase in construction costs made matters worse. Thanks to the investment by the Free State of Bavaria in the 420 million euro project and a great deal of civic commitment, which collected donations of 25 million euros, the future of cutting-edge medicine and excellent research for children in Munich is now secured. The Bavarian Prime Minister Dr. Markus Söder at the ground-breaking ceremony: “Bavaria is playing in the Champions League in medicine”.
