The new construction project for the research and administration building for the non-profit TRON GmbH is progressing at record speed. The symbolic groundbreaking ceremony took place on 9 April, attended by Minister-President Malu Dreyer, Rhineland-Palatinate’s Minister of Science Clemens Hoch, and BioNTech CEO Uğur Şahin. Şahin co-founded TRON 14 years ago with Özlem Türeci and Christoph Huber to advance biopharmaceutical research through close cooperation between academia and the pharmaceutical industry.
TRON is moving closer to the University Medical Center of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, both in terms of cooperation and location. The building site in Mainz’s Oberstadt is situated on university grounds.
By 2027, the building will accommodate approximately 260 TRON employees, enabling top-tier research in biomarker and biopharmaceutical development, including platforms for immune-based therapies such as RNA vaccines and cell therapies.
We are diligently working on this project!
