Nickl & Partner Architekten AG wins third prize for research building at Bern University
A jury has awarded third prize to Nickl & Partner’s design for a new medicolegal and clinical research building at Berne University. Seven entries were shortlisted for the three-stage competition.
The Canton of Bern’s brief was a demanding one, requiring a flexible-use laboratory suitable for high-density occupation but compatible with city planning requirements. The new building will provide additional space for the university’s expanding medicolegal institute and administration department.
The jury praised the practicality and layout of the design, and its careful consideration of ground-floor visitor traffic.
The competition entries will be on public display from Wednesday 9 to Saturday 19 April 2014 in the foyer of the Hochschulzentrum von Roll at Fabrikstrasse 8, 3012 Bern.
