After ten years of planning and construction, the Cantonal Hospital Baden (KSB) has officially opened its doors. As architects from Nickl & Partner, we are proud to have co-designed this visionary project together with Ghisleni—a hospital that goes far beyond mere functionality, elevating Healing Architecture to a new level.
On February 25, 2025, KSB CEO Adrian Schmitter and Chairman of the Board Daniel Heller, together with Health Director Jean-Pierre Gallati—who conveyed the best wishes of the Cantonal Government—officially inaugurated the new building.
With 3,000 rooms, eight floors, and over 76,000 square meters, the new facility sets new standards in architecture, sustainability, and technology. Natural light, green courtyards, and regional materials create a healing environment. A geothermal heating system, a woodchip power plant, and 180m³ of locally sourced wood emphasize the project’s commitment to sustainability. Additionally, 7,000 IoT sensors, fully integrated Building Information Modeling (BIM), and an intelligent guidance system ensure maximum efficiency and optimal patient care.
We extend our gratitude to everyone who made this hospital of the future possible. With the new KSB building, a new era of healthcare begins—innovative, sustainable, and patient-centered.
