The Institute for Microbiology and Virology forms the initial component of the “Oberer Schnarrenberg” campus, which has been designated as a major expansion area for hospitals, medical institutes and teaching and research facilities of the University of Tübingen.
The new building that houses the Institute for Microbiology and Virology adapts to the surrounding topography; as a five-storey building at the valley end, and with three stories facing into the hillside. Its defining features are a clear interior structure, extensive use of natural lighting, a high degree of technical flexibility, and ease of retrofitting.

Completion: March 2001
