The Institute of Mechanical Engineering is a new construction on the campus of the Augsburg Institute of Technology. The building replaces an older structure which was considered uneconomical to renovate – the new construction is of the same dimensions as its predecessor. The new building enables the organisation of both large laboratories of well-balanced dimensions in addition to offices with minimal room depths. Vertical access routes as well as services, ducting and sanitary facilities are located in the core zone in the central longitudinal axis. The exterior of the building is characterised by a meandering pattern across the facade. The facade is composed of a ventilated metal construction with glazed window banding, reflecting the technical content of the building to the outside world.

Completion: December 2011
