This compact new building stands opposite the main entrance to the Airbus manufacturing site, its stark geometry making a bold statement while harmonising with the angular office building on the corner of Airbus-Allee.

The interior is designed to encourage close cooperation between the various research and development bodies that share the building, achieving synergies while maintaining organisational separation between them. It is clearly divided into workshops, laboratories, offices, and communal areas.

A conventional punctuated band façade has additional weather protection in the form of single-storey cast-glass panels and outer sun screens. The alternation of transparent and opaque areas also contributes to the building’s distinctive appearance, and the choice of materials and colours gives it a sense of solidity, calm and depth and a surprisingly graceful feel, particularly in the early morning and late evening.
